The options for educational technology products are more plentiful than ever before, and it’s all too easy to get lost in the sea of choices. When selecting something for the classroom, it may be tempting to go straight for the best-reviewed apps or those that take advantage of the latest technology, but  don’t forget to ask yourself a critical question: do the solutions enable all of your students, including those with special educational needs and difficulties, to participate in learning activities equally?

It was one of my first music lessons for 5th graders when I realized how lost I was as a teacher. I had dreams about lessons where we listen to cool songs, play as a band and enjoy. This way my students would eventually fall in love with music. Then the reality slapped me in the face.

Kokoa has had a busy September! During Helsinki Learning week we joined SETT Helsinki and Dare to Learn, and launched a new service, Kokoa Elevate.

Our reason to party was the launch of Kokoa Elevate.  It is a browser-based solution for evaluating and selecting pedagogically valid learning tools. Kokoa Elevate is used by education providers and schools to back up their decision making. It can also be used by EdTech developers who want to collect systematic feedback when conducting school pilots.

ISTE2018 Educational Technology fair in Chicago, USA
July 6, 2018

My main goal for the ISTE trip was to familiarize with the U.S. Edtech scene and to find a few potential partners that we could work with when Kokoa is making its way to the U.S. market.

ISTE was definitely the right place to go to when you want to meet with the U.S. Edtech sector’s key people and organizations. I got loads of inspirational meetings, had very interesting discussions and came back with lots of new ideas, knowledge, and inspiration.

Digitalisation has improved processes in all industries and the same transformation has started in the education sector. Instead of seeing threats, we should focus on developing the best pedagogical practices for the use of technology and make sure it's used in the right way.

This text introduces some of the main pedagogical principles for the classroom use of educational technology.
