Digital Business Courses for Youth

Young Business Generations is a digital learning environment for studying economics and “hands-on” entrepreneurial competencies.

Young Business Generations includes three comprehensive business courses that support students in economic competencies, understanding the global economy and finding their own business skills. The students practice key competences related to economics and working life with the help of activating course exercises and applied assignments. The courses topics:
1. Sales, marketing and commercialisation 2. Communications and negotiation skills 3. The global market

The courses can be accessed through the digital Claned learning platform, so they can be carried out either as classroom learning or partly as distance-learning courses. The course materials follow an advanced pedagogical script that promotes engaging learning and knowledge creation. The script has been prepared in collaboration with the University of Helsinki.

The pedagogical analysis covers how the product supports learning of the identified skills. The student’s role is assessed by four contrary pair parameters, which are selected to cover the most essential aspects on the use of the product.

The solution provides pre-curated high-quality material for learning business skills in an age-appropriate manner. The material is diverse and supports learning through compact modules and short exercises. The product encourages the development of active and critical thinking of students. The content is well presented and the indications of the exercises are clear. The learning goals are also made visible well and there is a good mixture of theoretical information and practical tasks.

The solution has fixed learning goals that are clearly defined and guide the learning process. Students are well guided and the structure of the course is great. Their learning is constantly being evaluated. The solution directs the users to build upon their prior knowledge and reflect on topics in relation to their own life and experiences. The tasks are interesting and creative and they keep the learner's interest up well. The solution requires utilizing learned in open-ended problem-solving.

The course works for both independent learning and more guided learning in class. The students can progress at their own pace and don't need to feel peer pressure about moving too slow. Although the course has clear start and finish, the Claned environment supports exploration of learning content in any order. The restrictions for progressing in a certain order can come from the course instructor if necessary.

Collaborative
The course allows the learner to make all the decisions individually, and it is suitable for also remote learning. However, when used in the classroom context, many of the tasks can benefit from collaboration, and Claned platform also enables online commenting. The course is very flexible. The teacher can adapt the material to his/her preferences of the curriculum. The material is great as a standalone material, but it doesn't limit the teacher's creativity.

Our Quality Evaluation Method is an academically sound approach to evaluating a product’s pedagogical design from the viewpoint of educational psychology.
